Wank

Wank is a general term used to describe many fans' hostile behaviour in heated arguments over often unimportant canon or fanon issues. When such behaviour occurs, discussions tend to blow to gigantic proportions, usually meriting their own spotlight in Fandom Wank, a snarky online registry of the biggest wanks in the past few years.

Wank is often mocked, pointed and laughed at, and generally viewed as a tell-tale sign of immaturity. It grows on both small and big fandoms, but most often in the latter. LiveJournal is rife with it. Harry Potter fans are incredibly fond of wank contests, most commonly in the so-called "ship wars" (see Ron/Hermione and Harry/Hermione).
