Visitors' Entrance

The Visitors' Entrance to the Ministry of Magic is a telephone box in a shabby, unimpressive street. When seeking entrance, the witch or wizard must press the numbers 62442; a cool female voice inquires as to his or her business in the building and the proper badges are handed out via the metal chute regularly used for returning coins. The box then becomes a lift that leads to the Ministry's Atrium.
Harry Potter first uses this entrance with Arthur Weasley on August 12, 1995, when he is heading to his disciplinary hearing (OP7). He later uses the same path with members of the D.A., intending to rescue Sirius Black from Lord Voldemort in the Department of Mysteries (OP34).
