Trevor is Neville Longbottom's toad. Although toads are out of fashion and most students would be ashamed to own one (PS5, PS6), Neville is fond of his pet (PS6, PS7). However, he has a tendency to lose Trevor (PS6, PS16, HBP7). The toad often accompanies Neville to class and sometimes teachers use him for demonstration (PS10, PA7).

Trevor was a present for Neville from his great-uncle Algie, who bought him when Neville got his Hogwarts letter (PS7).

On September 1, 1991, Neville spent most of his first ride on the Hogwarts Express looking for Trevor. Before the departure of the train, Neville confessed to his exasperated grandmother that he had lost the toad. During the train ride, he asked Ron Weasley and Harry Potter whether they had seen his pet, looking near tears. Hermione Granger later asked them the same question somewhat bossily. Rubeus Hagrid found Trevor when the first-years exited the boats and returned him to Neville (PS6).

Filius Flitwick let Trevor zoom around the Charms classroom to demonstrate the effect of a Levitation Charm (PS10).

Shortly before the end of term, Neville was looking for Trevor in the Gryffindor common room late in the evening. He was crouching behind an armchair and overheard the Trio planning to sneak out after curfew to rescue the Philosopher's Stone. Clutching Trevor, he rose and tried to stop them. Hermione had to use a Body-Bind Curse on him (PS16).

At the end of the school year, when the time for packing had come, Trevor was found in a corner of the toilets (PS17).

On September 5, 1993, Severus Snape threatened to test Neville's Shrinking Solution on Trevor, informing the class that a ruined potion might be poisonous. With Hermione's assistance, Neville managed to brew a correct potion and Trevor turned into a tadpole when Snape poured a few drops down his throat. With a sour look, Snape gave him an antidote that returned him to his fully-grown state. He took five points from Gryffindor because Hermione had helped Neville against his orders (PA7).

The night before the first task of the Triwizard Tournament, Harry practiced Summoning Charms on Trevor and other items in the Gryffindor common room until two o'clock in the morning (GF20).

On September 1, 1995, Neville told Harry to hold Trevor while he showed his Mimbulus mimbletonia to the others on the Hogwarts Express. The Mimbulus mimbletonia sprayed them all with Stinksap. At this moment, Cho Chang entered the compartment, and Harry fervently wished that his crush had come when he was not clutching a toad and covered in Stinksap (OP10). Exactly a year later, Neville's bottom was sticking out from under a train seat where he was groping for Trevor when Romilda Vane entered the compartment to ask Harry to sit with her and her friends. Romilda obviously thought little of Neville's appearance. Harry, however, did not mind (HBP7).
