Nymphadora Lupin (née Tonks), known primarily as Tonks, is a deceased member of the Order of the Phoenix and an Auror. She is Remus Lupin's wife and the mother of Teddy.

Characteristics
Tonks is a Metamorphmagus; she changes her appearance at will quite frequently (OP3). Her "normal" hairstyle is short and bright pink, although she experiments with different hairstyles. She does, however, lose her ability to Metamorphose after she is rejected by Remus Lupin; her hair becomes short and mousy-brown (HBP5). She has a heart-shaped face, and brown eyes.
Nymphadora has a very strong personality, but she's generally friendly and is very humourous. She's deeply loyal and passionate about her beliefs and loved ones. She's also rather klutzy. She resents the name Nymphadora, preferring to be referred to as Tonks (OP3). She, like her cousin Sirius, "lacked the ability to behave herself" (OP9).
Hogwarts and Auror Training
Tonks went to Hogwarts in the same year as Charlie Weasley but was Sorted into Hufflepuff[1] (unlike her mother, a Slytherin).
Due to her penchant for mischief, Tonks was not made a Prefect, although to become an Auror she must have acheived quite good grades (OP9).
Nymphadora left Hogwarts the year before Harry Potter started attending the school, with the necessary NEWTs to enter Auror training. She took three years of class in Stealth and Tracking (which she almost failed during her clumsiness) and Concealment and Disguise (which she aced with minimal effort, as a Metamorphmagus) among others (OP3).
Tonks graduated as an Auror in the summer of 1994.
Order of the Phoenix
Less than a year after becoming a fully-qualified Auror, Nymphadora joins the Order of the Phoenix. She's trusted to take shifts in watching either Harry in case he is attacked, or to protect the entrance of the Department of Mysteries. Although supposed to obey any family member, Kreacher, the Black Family house-elf doesn't answer to her commands (OP6). She is part of the guard that escorts Harry, Hermione and the rest of the Weasley kids to the King's Cross station (OP10).
Tonks also took the Knight Bus when taking the students in Grimmauld Place back to Hogwarts after the Christmas break and then came back with Lupin (OP24). When the Order joined the members of the Dumbledore's Army at the Battle of the Department of Mysteries she started dueling her aunt Bellatrix Lestrange, but she was stupefied and Sirius took over (OP34). Hermione believes her depression to be the result of guilt over Sirius' death (HBP5), while Harry believes she was in love with Sirius after seeing her Patronus -- a big four legged animal (HBP8). Both of these deductions are incorrect, and rather illogical; Tonks behaved normally immediately after Sirius' death when she, along with Remus and Mad-Eye, greet the Trio on Platform Nine and Three-Quarters (OP38).
During the summer following Sirius' death, Molly invites Tonks over The Burrow frequently; though Molly is aware of the true reason for Tonks distress, Ginny and the Trio misinterpret her actions as an attempt to break up Bill and Fleur through Tonks. Fleur criticizes Tonks' change in appearance, saying that Tonks "has let herself go" (OP5); whether or not Fleur knows the circumstances is uncertain. Tonks is uncharacteristically reserved and lifeless throughout the year, which unnerves Harry. She is also one of the Aurors stationed in Hogsmeade for additional school protection. She comes to defend the school when Draco Malfoy lets in the Death Eaters and Snape kills Dumbledore.
When Bill is bitten by an untransformed werewolf and Fleur angrily insists that Bill's scars will not affect her love for him, Tonks begs Remus to understand that she does not care about his conditio. Though Remus insists that he is "too old, too poor and too dangerous" for her, he is generally overruled, and Arthur and McGonagall encourage Remus to give the relationship a chance (HBP29). Tonks and Lupin attend the Headmaster's funeral together, and her hair returns to its usual pink (HBP30).
Teddy
In 1996 Tonks marries Remus Lupin, and together they have one son, Teddy. She is killed in the Battle of Hogwarts by her aunt, Bellatrix (BLC); Bella had planned for this moment, because she had been humiliated by Andromeda's marrying a "Mudblood" and by Tonks's marrying a werewolf (DH1).

- Tonks is a fan of The Weird Sisters, and uses a shirt of the band when she, Mad-Eye Moody, and some other Order members confront the Dursleys at the end of Harry's fifth year (OP38).
