Toads are amphibian creatures. Most toads are not magical, but there are some breeds that are, like the enormous purple toads sold at the Magical Menagerie in Diagon Alley (PA4). Toads are common pets among wizards and belong to those creatures Hogwarts students are allowed to bring with them to school. However, they have been out of fashion for several years and students who bring one risk being laughed at (PS5).
When a chicken egg is placed beneath a toad, a Basilisk will hatch from it (CS16).
Neville Longbottom owns a toad named Trevor (PS6).
