The Portkey is the sixth chapter of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.

Waking up

Harry Potter is awoken by Molly Weasley, who then turns to wake up Ron. The boy feels around for his glasses, and sees that it is still dark outside. Two shapes emerge from the tangles of blankets at the foot of Harry's mattress; Fred and George, too, groggily get up; they all get dressed and go downstairs into the kitchen.

Molly is cooking, and Arthur is examining the Quidditch World Cup large parchment tickets. He is wearing Muggle clothes: a golfing sweater, an old and oversized pair of jeans and a thick leather belt. Bill, Charlie and Percy have been allowed to sleep in because they will Apparate to the Cup. Fred complains about not being able to Apparate yet, and Molly reminds him that he is not yet of age, nor has he passed the test.

Arthur mentions that the Department of Magical Transportation heavily fined two people a few days ago for Apparating without a license; the pair splinched themselves, and left half of their bodies behind. The Accidental Magic Reversal Squad had to repair the situation—and it was complicated, too, considering that several Muggles had spotted body parts in random places. Apparition, he says, is not easy; many grown wizards still prefer broomsticks.

Bill, Charlie and Percy have all acquired their licences, but Charlie had to take the test twice; on his first time, he Apparated five miles south of his intended destination, on top of an old woman doing her shopping. Percy passed his exams two weeks earlier.

Hermione and Ginny join the boys in the kitchen moments later. Arthur explains that they to wake up at this hour because they have a bit of a walk ahead of them.

Suddenly, Mrs. Weasley shrieks at George, demanding to know what he has in his pocket. "Accio!" she says sharply, and several coloured objects zoom out of George's pocket. They are Ton-Tongue Toffees, and Molly is furious that the twins did not destroy them like they promised to (GF5); she orders them to empty their pockets, and Summons the ones they did not voluntarily reveal.

Fred complains that they spent six months developing the sweets, and his mother retorts that it is little wonder, then, that the twins got so few OWLs.

Molly remains in a bad mood as she kissed Arthur on the cheek; the twins, however, are positively furious, and walk out of The Burrow without a single word to her.
