The Marauders is the self-given name of a group of four Hogwarts students--James Potter, Sirius Black, Remus Lupin and Peter Pettigrew--who wreaked havoc in the school for seven years and left fond memories in most people with whom they were aquainted. They went to Hogwarts previous to the Trio-era. Together they created the Marauder's Map, signed with the nicknames Moony, Wormtail, Padfoot and Prongs. This are the reason why this time period is often referred to in fanfiction as Marauder-era or MWPP-era.
