The Dream Oracle
From UnknowableWiki
The Dream Oracle is a book by Inigo Imago. It is provided by Sybill Trelawney for her Divination class (OP12, OP15, OP17).
Trelawney places copies of the book on the tables in her classroom before the first class of the year. She instructs them to read the introduction of the book before splitting in pairs and interpreting each other's dreams. After reading, Harry turns the pages of the book unenthusiastically while waiting for the class to end (OP12).
In the Divination class that Umbridge inspects, Trelawney is handing out copies of The Dream Oracle to her students when Dolores makes her presence known; the teacher is not pleased to see Umbridge there. She orders the class to divide in pairs and interpret each other's dream with the help of the book. When Umbridge starts pacing between desks, Harry quickly thinks of a dream—drowning Snape in his cauldron—so that Ron can interpret it. Ron checks his book; according to the instructions in it, he is supposed to add the dreamer's age to the number of letters in the subject of the dream. The date of the dream is also somehow involved in the calculations.
Meanwhile, Umbridge is interrogating Trelawney, and asking her to make a prediction on demand. Most students stop their classwork to watch the the two teachers' conversation covertly from behind copies of The Dream Oracle (OP15).
In another lesson, Trelawney once again hands out copies of the book. She is very angry due to the results of Umbridge's inspection, which had Trelawney put on probation; one copy of the book that she tosses at Seamus and Dean almost hits Seamus on the head, and she slams another copy on Harry and Ron's table. She shoves the last copy into Neville's chest so strongly that he falls off his pouffe. After an outburst of Trelawney's regarding Umbridge, all students focus on their work (OP17).
