The Dementor is the fifth chapter of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.

Leaving

Tom the barkeep wakes Harry Potter up with a cup of tea. The boy gets dressed and persuades Hedwig to get in her cage. Ron arrives moments later, complaining that Percy is accusing him of dripping tea on a picture of Penelope Clearwater, who has hidden the face under the frame because of her now blotchy nose. Fred and George stop by to congratulate Ron for angering Percy again, and the group heads down for breakfast.

Arthur is reading the Daily Prophet, and Molly is telling Hermione and Ginny about a Love Potion she'd made when she was a young girl. Everybody rushes to leave, piling up all their trunks by the door, with the cages of Hedwig and Hermes on top of them. Crookshanks is in a wickerwork basket, apparently irritated to be confined to a small space, and Hermoine tries to calm him down with the promise of letting him out in the Hogwarts Express. Ron voices his disagreement, pointing at Scabbers, who is curled up in his pocket.

Dark green Ministry cars arrive to take them to King's Cross. Despite their ordinary appearance, the cars slide through impossibly small gaps and jump to the head of unmoving queues, which helps them arrive early at the station. Percy catches a glimpse of Penelope in Platform Nine and Three-Quarters, and runs off to meet her, puffing his chest to show off his Head Boy badge.

Mr. and Mrs. Weasley say goodbye to the children. She gives Harry an extra hug, and hands sandwiches to the Weasleys (Ron's is not corned beef - PS6). Arthur calls Harry to a corner so that the boy can be warned about Sirius Black, but Harry tells him that he overheard the conversation that took place the previous night (PA4). Mr. Weasley then asks him to promise that he won't go looking for Sirius, whatever happens, whatever he might hear; Harry is dumbfounded ("Why would I go looking for someone I know wants to kill me?"), but has no time to reply, since the train is about to leave.

The journey to Hogwarts

Harry mutters that he needs to talk to Ron and Hermione in private; Ron tells Ginny to leave, and she stalks off. There is only one other occupant in the compartment: a sleeping man who looked ill and exhausted. His light-brown hair is flecked with gray. Hermione notes that his small, battered case has the inscription "Professor R. J. Lupin", and guesses that he is their new Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher.

Trivia

  • Like his son, Arthur does not like the sound of Voldemort's name.
