Sirius Black's motorcycle is a regular Muggle motorcycle that was modified with the use of magic, acquiring the ability to fly. The existence of objects like this motorcycle and Arthur Weasley's flying Ford Anglia is a liability (see Statute of Secrecy) and against wizard law, falling under the jurisdiction of the Misuse of Muggle Artefacts Office.

Sirius is extremely fond of this motorcycle (PA10); he probably buys it as a teenager, for he leaves a motorcycle manual in his bedroom in number twelve, Grimmauld Place (DH9)—and he moves out of there at the age of sixteen (OP6).

Rubeus Hagrid borrows Sirius' motorcycle in order to take baby Harry Potter to number four, Privet Drive, soon after the murder of the Potters (PS1). Albus Dumbledore and Minerva McGonagall don't seem shocked to see the vehicle, which probably indicates that they were both well acquainted with it. The half-giant leaves Little Whinging claiming to be on his way to return it to Sirius (PS1).

Before finding out that he is a wizard, Harry has a dream about a flying motorcycle (PS2).

Arthur Weasley later adds a few functionalities to the motorcycle, including a panel button that makes dragon fire come out of its escape. Hagrid used the vehicle to go to number four, Privet Drive on July 27, 1997, in order to help other Order members transport Harry to The Burrow.

Harry rides the motorcycle's sidecar during most of the Battle of the Seven Potters (DH4). The vehicle is badly damaged during the battle (DH5); Ted Tonks sends the remaining pieces to Arthur Weasley, who keeps them in The Burrow's chicken coop until he has time to work on them (DH6). Mr Weasley eventually fixes the bike, and Harry keeps it (BLC).
