Shrinking Solution

The Shrinking Solution is a potion which causes the drinker to become smaller or younger. Its ingredients include skinned Shrivelfig, chopped daisy roots, sliced caterpillars, rat spleens, and leech juice. When it is finished brewing, it turns a bright green.

In the Trio's third year, Professor Snape has them brew Shrinking Solutions; as Draco Malfoy's arm has just been injured by Buckbeak the hippogriff, Harry and Ron are forced to prepare his daisy roots and Shrivelfig for him. As usual, Snape picks on Neville, who is too liberal with the ingredients, turning his potion orange rather than the desired bright green. When Snape announces that he will test Neville's potion on Trevor the toad, Hermione helps him to salvage it, and Trevor becomes a tadpole rather than being poisoned. Though surprised, Snape is not impressed, and takes five points from Gryffindor (PA7).
