The second task of the Triwizard Tournament of 1994/1995 took place on February 24, 1995. The four champions had to enter the Great Lake to retrieve the person they would miss most from the Merpeople.

All champions managed to find a method to breathe under water - Harry Potter used Gillyweed, Viktor Krum partly Transfigured himself into a shark and Fleur Delacour and Cedric Diggory both used the Bubble-Head Charm. However, none of the champions returned with their hostage inside the time limit of an hour. Cedric returned first with his hostage Cho Chang, followed by Viktor with Hermione Granger. Fleur was held up by Grindylows and forced to return without her sister Gabrielle. Harry came back last, but he brought Gabrielle as well as his own hostage Ron Weasley. The judges awarded the highest marks to Cedric, followed by Harry, Krum and Fleur. After the task, Harry and Cedric were tied for first place (GF26).
