Romance Fics

Romance fics are stories focused on developing the romantic relationship of their main characters. They can be chaptered or a one-shot. Most romance fics focus on a single pairing, or in some cases a single love triangle, though there are also romance fics which focus on the romantic relationships between a larger number of characters. The couples can be canon or fanon pairings.

Often, romance fics also feature elements of another genre, such as angst or comedy. Their content is very varied, with some being dark, some funny, some heart-warming, some heart-wrenching, and some just sickeningly sappy. So-called "fluff" makes up for a large fraction of fics in this genre, meaning that the story concentrates on optimistic, sweet or funny scenes and avoids dark content, anxiety or drama.

Romance fics are generally the most popular genre of fanfiction, with the romance categories on fanfiction archives usually containing many more fanfics than any other category.
