Characteristics
Rather than working toward a true journalist's goal, to expose the truth to a public that would have no other way of knowing it otherwise, Rita Skeeter is only interested in selling papers (or books) and getting her name out there.
Psychological
Skeeter will stop at nothing to get a story; in fact, she has been a busybody since her Hogwarts days.
She pesters her subjects and oftentimes re-interprets their quotes to create a more scandalous article.
Quick-Quotes-Quill
Skeeter is hardly ever found without her trusty Quick-Quotes Quill, which automatically takes notes for her during an interview. The acid-green coloured quill is inaccurate, dramatising situations and adding opinions.
Career
Skeeter wrote several books, including the best-sellers The Life and Lies of Albus Dumbledore after the Hogwarts headmaster's death (DH2) and Armando Dippet: Master or Moron? (DH13). She also wrote biographies about Harry and Snape (Snape: Scoundrel or Saint?) after the end of the Second War (BLC).
Animagus form
Rita is an unregistered Animagus; she can transform into a large, fat beetle that is able to fly. She can be recognized by markings around her antennae that resemble the jewelled spectacles she wears as a human. She uses her talent as a literal bugging device to spy on the subjects of her stories (GF37, GF23, GF26, GF28, GF31).
Covering the Triwizard Tournament
Interviews with Harry Potter
Skeeter was the journalist documenting the Triwizard Tournament during Harry's fourth year. Intrigued by the prospect of getting the inside scoop on the Boy Who Lived, Skeeter was persistant in persuing stories.
Interactions with Hermione
Skeeter, despite having been banned from Hogwarts, continued to write articles about Hermione and Harry. The former, growing increasingly suspicious, finally discovered that Skeeter was an unregistered Animagus, who took the form of a beetle.
Hermione captured Skeeter in a jar and blackmailed her.
