Richard Harris is the actor who plays Albus Dumbledore in the two first Harry Potter movies: Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone and Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.

Harris started his career in theater, in 1956. He debuted in cinema two years later (1958), with a small role in Alive and Kicking. From then on, the actor was in several plays and movies, including the musical Camelot, after which Richard not only won a Golden Globe (Best Motion Picture Actor in a Musical or Comedy), but also discovered his musical talents. He recorded numerous albuns and singles, becoming quite famous not only for his acting, but also for his musician skills.

The actor was nominated for two Best Actor in a Leading Role Oscars, due to his his work in This Sporting Life and The Field. He was also in the Oscar-winning films Gladiator and Unforgiven.

At first, Richard Harris declined the invitation to play the Hogwarts headmaster in the Harry Potter movies. His granddaughter, however, when hearing the news, forced him to accept the role, under the threat that she would never speak to him again.

Harris passed away on October 25, 2002, of Hodgkin's disease, before the premiere of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. He was replaced by Michael Gambon.
