Potions is one of the many subjects taught in Hogwarts. In this class, students learn how to make magical formulae and to prepare specific ingredients. Potions taught at Hogwarts increase in difficulty as the student becomes older. The first years are required to create a Forgetfulness Potion for their final exams. By the student's sixth year, they already become acquainted with the likes of Veritaserum and Felix Felicis.
The Potions classroom is a chilly, dark dungeon.
Canon Potions teachers
- Severus Snape: taught Harry Potter from first year until fifth year; he joined the staff around the year of Harry's birth. Required the books One Thousand Magical Herbs and Fungi and Magical Drafts and Potions for OWL-level Potions.
- Horace Slughorn: taught this subject in Harry's sixth year (and in his seventh year, despite the fact that he was not attending), and during MWPP era. Required the book Advanced Potion Making for NEWT-level Potions.
