Percival Dumbledore was the husband of Kendra and the father of Albus, Aberforth and Ariana Dumbledore (DH2). One of Albus' middle names is Percival, presumably because of his father (OP8). Percival was a good-looking man with twinkling eyes; in a photo reproduced in Rita Skeeter's The Life and Lies of Albus Dumbledore and in the Daily Prophet, he is portrayed holding newborn baby Ariana (DH11).

Percival faced a Wizengamot trial and was eventually sent to Azkaban for killing three Muggle boys who had attacked his six-year-old daughter and caused life-lasting damage to her sanity (DH28). This happened one year before Albus started studying at Hogwarts—1891, in all likelihood. After his imprisonment, the Dumbledores moved from Mould-on-the-Wold to Godric's Hollow (DH8)

Percival died in prison. He never explained his actions to the Ministry for fear that Ariana would be locked up in St. Mungo's—her lack of control over her powers made her a walking offence to the Statute of Secrecy (DH28).

When Albus put on the Peverell Ring, with hopes that using the Resurrection Stone would allow him to see his loved ones once more, one of the people he hoped to see—and apologise to—was his father (DH35).
