Ollivanders
From UnknowableWiki
Ollivanders is the oldest and most famous wand shop in Britain. The sign over the door of the shop reads "Ollivanders: Makers of Fine Wands since 382 bc". There is one wand on a purple cushion on display in the dusty window. The place is small, with small boxes, each containing one wand, lined up to the ceiling on every wall. Mr. Ollivander is the shop owner.
Ollivander wands contain one of three cores: unicorn hairs, phoenix tail feathers, or dragon heartstrings (PS5). Upon seeing Fleur Delacour's wand, whose core is made of Veela hair, Mr. Ollivander notes that he does not use the substance, as he feels that wands containing it are too temperamental (GF18).
Shortly after the beginning of the second war, Mr. Ollivander disappears, and his shop is shut down (HBP6).
Wands Sold by Ollivanders
Most, if not all, British wizards in the series have Ollivanders wands. Known Ollivanders wands are:
- Rubeus Hagrid: oak, sixteen inches, bendy (snapped when he got expelled).
- Lily Evans bought her first wand in the shop: ten and a quarter inches long, wishy, made of willow, perfect for Charms work.
- James Potter also bought his first wand there: eleven inches, pliable, made of mahogany, perfect for Transfiguration.
- Tom Marvolo Riddle: thirteen and a half inches, yew, phoenix feather core.
- Harry Potter: holly and phoenix feather, eleven inches, supple.
- Ron Weasley: after his first wand (Charlie Weasley's old wand) is broken by the Whomping Willow (CS5), his parents buy him a fourteen-inch willow wand with a core of unicorn hair (PA4).
- Cedric Diggory: twelve and a quarter inches, contained a single hair from the tail of a fine male unicorn (GF18).
- Neville Longbottom: cherry and unicorn hair, presumably one of the last wands sold at the shop before the owner's disappearance (HBP7).
- Hermione Granger: vine wood and dragon heartstring[1]
