Nagini was Lord Voldemort's pet snake and one of his Horcruxes (GF1, HBP23). She was instrumental in restoring him to a feeble corporeal form in the summer of 1994 (GF1, GF33). The last Horcrux to be destroyed, she was killed by Neville Longbottom during the Battle of Hogwarts on May 2, 1998 (DH36).
Nagini was a huge snake with a neck as thick as a man's thigh and a length of at least twelve feet (DH1, GF1). Her tail was diamond-patterned (GF1). Her fangs could easily crush a man's ribs and her venom was extremely poisonous and slowed down healing (OP21, OP22).
As one of his Horcruxes, she shared a strong mental connection with Voldemort and he could easily possess and control her. She always obeyed him. Before Voldemort realized that Harry was hunting his Horcruxes, he often sent her away on important missions. Voldemort also liked to pet and carry her around his neck; he even used endearments when he spoke to her (GF33).
It is unknown how and when Nagini met Voldemort's bodiless spirit. However, she was with him and Peter Pettigrew in Albania in the summer of 1994. Using her venom, among other ingredients, Pettigrew brewed a potion that created a feeble corporeal form for Voldemort (GF33). Voldemort needed to drink her venom regularly to stay alive. Soon after, he turned Nagini into a Horcrux using the death of Bertha Jorkins (BLC). Pettigrew, Voldemort and Nagini travelled from Albania to England and inhabited the Riddle House in Little Hangleton. On the evening of August 23, Frank Bryce spied on Voldemort and Pettigrew. Nagini discovered him in the hallway and told Voldemort, who killed Bryce. Harry Potter witnessed the scene in a dream (GF1, GF2).
On May 31, 1995, Harry had another visionary dream during Divination in which he saw Nagini, Voldemort and Pettigrew. When Voldemort said he would not feed Pettigrew to Nagini for letting Barty Crouch, Sr. escape and promised her Harry instead, the snake hissed (GF29).
Nagini was present at the Little Hangleton graveyard with Voldemort and Wormtail when Harry was brougth there by Portkey after the end of the third task. She was slithering through the grass and circling the headstone Harry was tied to (GF32, GF33).
Voldemort possessed Nagini and sent her into the Ministry of Magic to explore the entrance to the Department of Mysteries in the night of December 18, 1995. She attacked Arthur Weasley, who was watching the entrance. Harry saw the scene through her eyes and warned Albus Dumbledore. By the time others reached the scene, Nagini had disappeared (OP21).
Nagini accompanied Voldemort to Malfoy Manor in the summer of 1997; she wrapped herself around his neck during the Death Eater meeting in which Charity Burbage was killed. Voldemort offered her the corpse for dinner (DH1).
Voldemort sent Nagini to Godric's Hollow, where she slipped inside the corpse of Bathilda Bagshot. On Chrsitmas Eve 1997, she lured Harry and Hermione Granger into Bathilda's house where she attacked Harry and summoned Voldemort. Hermione could Apparate Harry out of the house before Voldemort arrived (DH17).
After he learned that one of his Horcruxes was stolen from Gringotts on May 1, 1998, Voldemort decided to keep Nagini close to his side at all times. He took her with him to the Gaunt shack and the cave, where he found his Horcruxes gone, and from there to Hogwarts (DH27). On May 2, he hid her in the Shrieking Shack, where she floated in a protected magical cage in midair. The Trio tried to reach them there to kill Nagini and destroy the Horcrux within. While they were in the tunnel under the Shack, Harry witnessed how Voldemort ordered Nagini to kill Severus Snape through his mental connection with Voldemort. Voldemort and Nagini left the Shack (DH32).
Before Harry entered the Forbidden Forest to let himself get killed by Voldemort, he told Neville Longbottom that Voldemort's snake had to be destroyed. Nagini was at the clearing in her floating cage when Harry entered it, but he had no chance to kill her (DH34). When Voldemort went to the school to present Harry's supposedly dead body, she was wrapped around his shoulders. Fulfilling Harry's request, Neville sliced her head off with the sword of Godric Gryffindor (DH36).
