Incarcerous
From UnknowableWiki
Incarcerous is a spell that conjures ropes which wrap themselves around the person against whom the spell is cast.
Uses in the series:
- N.B. Many characters bind others using ropes from their wand without uttering the incantation for the Incarcerous spell; though it is not definite, Incarcerous is probably the spell they use.
- Quirinus Quirrell probably uses the spell non-verbally to bind Harry Potter while the two are facing the Mirror of Erised, both trying to reach the Philosopher's Stone (PS17).
- Severus Snape may have used the spell to bind Remus Lupin in the Shrieking Shack on the night when Harry meets Sirius Black (PA19).
- Though he does not utter the incantation for the spell, it is probable that Peter Pettigrew uses Incarcerous to bind Harry to a headstone in the Little Hangleton graveyard on the night of Voldemort's rebirth (GF32).
- Albus Dumbledore presumably uses Incarcerous to bind Barty Crouch, Jr. after his true identity has become evident (GF36).
- Dolores Umbridge uses Incarcerous against Magorian after quarrelling with the centaurs that live in the Forbidden Forest, further infuriating the centaurs (OP33).
- Harry Potter casts it on the Inferi in the cave (HBP26).
- Harry attempts to use the spell against Snape after the Battle of the Astronomy Tower, but Severus deflects it (HBP28).
- Incarcerous is presumably the spell which Antonin Dolohov uses to bind Ron Weasley in the café at Tottenham Court Road (DH9).
- Minerva McGonagall probably uses the spell to bind the Carrows to each other in Ravenclaw Tower, thus rendering them unable to cause any trouble while preparations for the Battle of Hogwarts are made (DH30).
