The Hogwarts Express is a red train that leaves Platform Nine and Three-Quarters at King's Cross Station every September 1, headed towards Hogsmeade (PS6).

All Hogwarts students take the train to get to school at the beginning of each term, but it is unknown whether they use other means of transportation when leaving and returning to school on breaks and other allowed absences. Harry, Hermione and the Weasley children, for instance, take the Knight Bus to return to Hogwarts after the 1995 Christmas break (OP24).

In the Christmas of 1997, Luna Lovegood was kidnapped in the Hogwarts Express (DH21, DH23).
