Hermes is Percy Weasley's screech owl. Percy got him from his parents when he became a prefect (PS6). He uses him for his private correspondence (CS3, OP14).

Ron tried to borrow Hermes to deliver a letter to Harry during the summer holidays of 1992, but Percy wouldn't let him because he needed the owl to deliver letters to his girlfriend Penelope Clearwater (CS3).

Hermes was annoyed by Ron's new owl Pigwidgeon in the summer of 1994 and Ron therefore had to keep Pig in his room.

On September 8, 1995, Percy used Hermes to deliver a letter to Ron in which he recommended that he should "sever ties" with Harry. Hermione recognised the owl at the Gryffindor common room window and Ron let him in. Hermes left immediately after Ron had removed the letter (OP14).
