The MacBoons were a wizarding family that, along with the McCliverts, inhabited the Isle of Drear. The family was known for its ineptitude at magic. According to legend, after Quintius MacBoon murdered Dugald McClivert, the McCliverts retaliated by Transfiguring all the MacBoons into five-legged creatures.
Soon afterwards, the McCliverts noticed that the MacBoons were far more dangerous in their new form—that of vicious Quintapeds that fed on human flesh. The McCliverts attempted to Untransfigure their rivals, but did not succeed; the entire family was slaughtered. After all McCliverts had died, the MacBoons realised that there were no wizards left to perform the spell reversal. (more)
