This article is about Severus Snape's nickname, the half-blood Prince. Were you looking for Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, the sixth installment of the series?

The Half-Blood Prince is the self-given title of Severus Snape, appearing in the sleeve of his sixth year Potions book, Advanced Potion Making. The book is filled with notes in the margin from the Prince, often containing useful shortcuts in Potion-making and invented spells, which prove very useful to Harry when he comes into possession of the book in the beginning of his sixth year. Snape derived the title from his heritage; he is a half-blood (his father was a Muggle), and his mother's maiden name was Prince.

Hermione warns Harry against the dangers of following all the instructions in the Prince's book, partially out of envy, but Harry ignores her; eventually, it leads him to use the spell Sectumsempra on Draco Malfoy, nearly killing him.
