Gargoyle

Gargoyle statues serve as door guards at Hogwarts. Two gargoyles guard the entrance to the staff room (OP17). Another gargoyle guards the entrance to the Headmaster's office.

"Gulping gargoyles!" is an exclamation of surprise (GF9).

We do not know whether gargoyles are magical creatures or simply bewitched statues.
