Fred was George's identical twin. He had flaming red hair, as all the Weasleys. He was shorter and stockier than his brothers (Percy and Bill), and had many freckles in his face. Fred was creative and had a special talent for troublemaking. He was very out-going, constantly teased his brothers while he was over-protective about his sister. He was also an accomplished beater.

Fred and George were taught at home by their mother, along with their brothers. The boys used to play Quidditch in their family's yard, and already showed their hability to invent and create trouble. At the age of six, Fred started showing signs of magic: he turned Ron's teddy bear into a spider after his brother broke his toy broomstick (CS9). When he was eight, he tried to convince Ron to make an Unbreakable Vow with him, having George as their bonder. Arthur found the boys moments before they could perform the oath, and he was never so angry with any of his children. Fred's left buttock was never the same again (HBP15).

Hogwarts

As soon as he got to Hogwarts, Fred was Sorted into Gryffindor. He and his brother George became members of the Gryffindor Quidditch team on their second year at school. As they approached the entrance to Platform Nine and Three-Quarters, Fred teased his mother as she told him to follow Percy who had already crossed the barrier, saying that he was George, not Fred and that she couldn't tell them apart. After Molly helped Harry Potter to cross the barrier, George offered himself to help the boy to get his trunk inside the Hogwarts Express. They were the first to recognize The Boy Who Lived, and kept making fun of Percy because he couldn't stop mentioning that he became a Prefect. The twins promised their mother that they would take care of Ickle Ronniekins and Fred told his mother that the boy that was near them on the station was actually Harry, and wondered if he could remember how Lord Voldemort looked like. Molly forbid him to ask Harry about it, and told the boys that she didn't want to receive any more owls about the diversions they provoked at school. He also promised to write a lot of owls to his sister, Ginny. He introduced himself and George to Harry and left to look for Lee Jordan, who managed to bring a tarantula to the train.

Ron and Harry started to talk to each other after Fred and George left, and he mentioned that the twins were popular for their jokes, and that even if they were frequently involved on troubles they still got very good grades. Fred also told his younger brother that the sorting ceremony hurt a lot, but the boy didn't really believe him (PS6).

As Fred started his third year, Ron was already saying that he would kill his brother for telling him that he would have to fight a troll instead of putting the Sorting Hat on his head (PS7). By the time the boy was sorted, he had already forgot about it, and Fred and his two brothers welcomed the new member of Gryffindor. After Snape started to be unfair with Harry, Ron told him that no one would care if the Potions master had taken points from Gryffindor because of him, and that he took points from Fred and George all the time (PS8).

The twins were always complaining about the school brooms, saying that they started to vibrate if you were flying to high, or were flying slightly to the left all the time. As Harry followed Draco Malfoy while trying to get Neville Longbottom's remembrall back and became the new Seeker of the House team, Fred congratulated him during dinner, and explained that they were also on the team, before leaving because Lee Jordan told them he found a new passageway, although they thought they already knew which one it was (PS9).

Before Harry's first Quidditch match, Fred and George kept on forseeing Oliver Wood's speech, and as the Quidditch Captain told them it was time to go to the pitch, Harry followed the twins. One of them sent a bludger in Adrian Pucey's direction and caused him to loose the Quaffle. Minutes later, the Slytherin Chaser managed to avoid bludgers from both Weasley twins, but he never got to score as the Snitch was seen. (PS11)

Fred, George, Percy, Ron and Harry stayed at Hogwarts for Christmans break, as Molly and Arthur went to Romenia to visit Charlie. As the twins woke up on Christimans day, they rushed to the first-year's dormitory to meet his brother, wearing their brand-new blue Weasley jumpers. Each of them had a letter on it -- F to Fred and G to George. Fred noticed that Harry's jumper was better knitted than the others, and said that their mother was probably extra-careful when the person wasn't from their family. While they were at lunch, Fred and Harry decided to try a prank item together that caused many white rats to erupt from it. During the afternoon the twins stole Percy's prefect's badge and ran around with it inside the commom room (PS12).

After Harry, Hermione and Neville Longbottom lost 150 points for being caught out of bed after midnight, Ron tried to comfort their friends saying that Fred and George lost points all the time and no one cared about it, but Harry reminded him that they never lost 150 at once . Even the twins were angry with Harry and no one talked to him during the practices, just referring to the boy as "the Seeker" (PS15). Although they were mad at the boy, they fully forgot about it after his adventure under the trapdoor (PS16) and tried to send him a toilet seat while he was at the Hospital Wing but Madam Pomfrey confiscated it. As the school staff delivered them their grades and warned them not to use magic out of school, Fred said that he always hoped that they would forget to sent the notes and the warning (PS17).

Adult Life

Fred appeared with a large group of Harry's friends and members of the Order of the Phoenix to escort him to safety on his seventeenth birthday (DH4). When George was found to be missing an ear, he was in shock, until the two began to joke about it (DH5).

Fred was joking with his brother, Percy, during the final battle, right after Percy reunited with the Weasley family, when Fred was killed, with the ghost of his laugh still on his face (DH31).
