Forbidden Forest

The Forbidden Forest is a dark and large forest located in the Hogwarts Grounds, east of Hogwarts Castle. Hogwarts students are not allowed to go to the Forest, except during Care of Magical Creatures class or detentions. Hagrid often makes paths in the Forest so people can go through.

A large variety of magical creatures inhabit the Forest:

• A herd of centaurs, numbering least fifty. Its members include Bane, Magorian, and Firenze–who was banished from the herd when he agreed to teach Divination at Hogwarts in Harry's fifth year.

• Acromantula. In his third year at Hogwarts, Rubeus Hagrid hatched and raised the Acromantula Aragog, for which he was expelled from Hogwarts, as the monster was considered the inhabitant of the Chamber of Secrets. After his expulsion, Hagrid hid the giant spider in the Forest and found Aragog a life partner, Mosag. The two have a large family residing in the Forest, encountered by Harry and Ron in CS.

• Grawp, Hagrid's giant half-brother, who is currently in hiding.

• A herd of tamed Thestrals. This is the only herd of tamed thestrals in Britain.

• Unicorns.

• Fluffy, Hagrid's three-headed dog, was released into the Forest after the Philosopher's Stone had been destroyed.

• Bowtruckles.

• Werewolves, according to the statements of Draco Malfoy, Argus Filch, and Tom Marvolo Riddle. We do know that Remus Lupin went to the Shrieking Shack during his monthly transformations; there is a theory that he might have roamed in the Forest as well.

• Trolls, according to Tom Riddle.

• Though it is not a magical creature, Arthur Weasley's Flying Ford Anglia has also been residing in the Forest since the start of Harry and Ron's Second Year, when they drove it to Hogwarts after missing the Hogwarts Express and crashed the car into the Whomping Willow.
