Fenrir Greyback is a wild-looking werewolf who developed a taste for human flesh even when in his regular shape. He has been a Death Eater since the First War, but has never been sent to Azkaban (HBP2). Voldemort did not deem Fenrir worthy of belonging to his inner circle; because of this, he does not have a Dark Mark branded on his forearm (DH23).

When Harry Potter followed Draco Malfoy to Knockturn Alley, he overheard the Slytherin warning Borgin, one of the owners of the shop Borgin and Burkes, that Fenrir—who, according to Draco, is an old friend of the Malfoys—would be visiting the shop from time to time to check on the assignment Borgin had just been given (HBP6).

After Remus Lupin went underground to live with werewolves, he met Harry and the two discussed werewolves' current standing in the wizarding world. Remus then talked about Greyback, who is, according to him, the most savage werewolf alive, who takes pleasure in biting the most people he can. He joined with the Death Eaters solely to obtain prey more easily; he believes that werewolves are superior to and deserve to overcome wizards. Voldemort threatened many parents with the possibility of unleashing Fenrir on their children.

Remus further revealed that it was Greyback who bit him; Mr. Lupin had offended the werewolf for some reason, and young Remus had to suffer for it (HBP16).

Greyback participated in the Battle of the Astronomy Tower. When he nastily pointed out to the cornered Albus Dumbledore how much he "like[d] kids", the Headmaster showed some disgust. The werewolf was anxious to kill Dumbledore himself, but his fellow Death Eaters prevented him from doing so; the orders they had received were that the task was to be carried out by Draco (HBP27).

After Dumbledore died, Fenrir nearly bit Harry; Bill Weasley, however, ended up being infected and badly scarred. His mother Molly started liking Fleur Delacour, Bill's fiancée, after the part-Veela witch stated that she is good-looking enough for the both of them (HBP29).

During the Battle of Hogwarts, Greyback attempted to bite Lavender Brown; Hermione Granger prevented him from doing so. He was hit on the head moments afterwards with one of Sybill Trelawney's huge crystal balls (DH32). Later that evening, Neville Longbottom brings Fenrir down (DH36).
