Femmeslash

Femmeslash the female counterpart of slash, i.e. a fic that includes a female/female ship. Though by no means as popular as slash, it is an ever-expanding genre in Harry Potter fanfiction.
A significant number of femmeslash fics are PWPs. This phenomenon, of course, can also be verified in slash stories, but the lesser amount of femmeslash stories inequivocally leads to situations and developments that often resemble male-targeted erotica.
One important problem that affects many ficwriters that venture into femmeslash territory is their complete lack of knowledge of the subject matter. Even though the vast majority of Harry Potter fanfiction authors is female, they have not, for the most part, had any contact with real-life lesbian relationships, and have to base themselves on movies and other fics.
