Dragon's blood, also spelled dragon blood (W1, GF13, OP20), is a powerful and expensive potion ingredient (PS6, HBP4). It can be greenish (OP20) or dark red (HBP4), probably depending on the dragon's breed. Albus Dumbledore is famous for discovering the twelve uses of dragon's blood, although Rita Skeeter casts doubt on his achievement, saying that Ivor Dillonsby had already discovered eight of them when Dumbledore 'borrowed' his notes (DH2).

Durig the Easter holidays of 1992, Hermione Granger annoys Harry Potter by reciting the twelve uses of dragon's blood (PS14). In September 1994, Hermione reprimands Draco Malfoy for disabusing Blast-Ended Skrewts. She compares them to dragons and says that dragon's blood is very useful although you would not wish for a dragon as a pet (GF13). Rubeus Hagrid treats the facial injuries he received from Grawp with a bloody steak of dragon meat. The blood that seeps out of the steak has a greenish tinge (OP20).

Horace Slughorn sprays the contents of his last bottle of dragon's blood onto the walls of the house he inhabits when he tries to pretend that he has been attacked by Death Eaters in the summer of 1996. He later summons it back into the crystal bottle, complaining to Dumbledore that prices are exorbitant at the moment. He hopes that the blood is still usable, although it has become a bit dusty (HBP4).
