First appearance in canon The Noble and Most Ancient House of Black (OP)

Doxys, also called Biting Fairies, are small magical creatures. They have human-like bodies with an extra pair of arms and legs that are covered in thick black hair. Their wings are similar to that of a beetle: thick, shiny and curved. Doxys have two rows of sharp teeth. Their bite is poisonous and requires an antidote.

Doxys prefer the cool climate of northern Europe and North America. They infest houses. They lay up to five hundred eggs at a time; the eggs are buried and hatch after two to three weeks (FBAZ).

Doxys in number twelve, Grimmauld Place

There is a terrible Doxy infestation in the drawing room of number twelve, Grimmauld Place, forcing Molly Weasley, her children, Harry Potter and Hermione Granger to spray the courtains of the house with Doxycide.

After collecting the paralysed Doxys in a bucket, Fred pockets one of the creatures for experimentation (OP6).
