Defence Against the Dark Arts

(Redirected from Defence)
Defence Against the Dark Arts is a subject taught at Hogwarts. Its main focus is the study of how to defend oneself against dark magic and dangerous magical creatures.
The position of Defence Against the Dark Arts professor at Hogwarts is cursed: for various reasons, no teacher has spent more than a year occupying the position since Tom Marvolo Riddle unsuccessfully tried to procure it.
Harry Potter is exceptionally gifted in this subject. He secretly tutors other students during his fifth year, forming with them a group known as Dumbledore's Army (OP18).
In the Harry Potter books, Defence Against the Dark Arts teachers usually play a pivotal role in each book's mystery or climax.
