Dean Thomas is a Gryffindor in Harry Potter's year. His best friend is Seamus Finnigan and he is a loyal fan of the West Ham Football Team.

Childhood
Dean's father left his family when he was still a baby, so he was raised by his muggle single mother until she decided to marry again. Dean has half-siblings resulting from his mother's second marriage. Although neither Dean nor his mother found out the truth, his father was a pure-blood wizard who ran away from home in order to protect his family from the Death Eaters after he refused to join them. Thus, despite believing himself to be a Muggle-born, Dean is actually a Half-blood [1].
He had a happy childhood with his siblings, and was surprised when he received his Hogwarts letter, after which he dropped out of his muggle school to study magic.
Hogwarts
Dean was Sorted into Gryffindor along with Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, Neville Longbottom and Seamus (PS7). He quickly became friends with the Irish boy.
Dean is a talented artist. He painted a lion on a banner for Harry's first Quidditch match as a Seeker, against Slytherin (PS11). Later, when Harry competed in the Triwizard Tournament, he made other banners depicting the first task, some of which showed Cedric Diggory's hair on fire (GF21).When Harry failed to get permission from the Dursleys to visit Hogsmeade, Dean offered to forge Vernon Dursley's signature (PA8).
Dean didn't have a date to the Yule Ball, and kept wondering how Harry and Ron ended up taking the two "most beautiful girls in their year" -- Parvati and Padma Patil (GF23).
After Dumbledore's speech during the end-of-term feast about Voldemort's return, Dean didn't tell his parents about it, afraid that they would forbid him to come back to Hogwarts. When Seamus and Harry had a row on their first night back the following year, Dean refused to take part on it (OP11).
Dean participated in the argument that took place during Dolores Umbridge's first class as a Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher. He defended Remus Lupin, saying he was the best teacher the students had ever had (OP12). Later, he attended the meeting at the Hog's Head, and became a member of Dumbledore's Army. Seamus didn't go the the meeting in Hogsmeade, but Dean managed to convince him to go to one of the later meetings of the group—which, incidentally, was the last one of the organization (OP27).
After Ginny Weasley dumped Michael Corner after the Quidditch match against Ravenclaw, she began dating Dean (OP38). They spent the summer apart, but Ginny seemed pretty happy about meeting him in the Hogwarts Express (HBP7). He tried out for the position of Chaser on the Gryffindor Quidditch Team, but Katie Bell, Ginny and Demelza Robins got the positions (HBP11).
After Katie's accident with the cursed necklace, Harry asked Dean to play Chaser in her place. After his first practice with the team, Harry and Ron found him snogging Ginny in a empty hallway (HBP14).
After the Christmans break, Dean's relationship with Ginny started to go downhill: she didn't look so happy when he went off to see him during the trip back to school (HBP17). They had a row after the game against Hufflepuff, because Dean laughed about the way Harry fell off his broom after being hit by a bludger (HBP19). They kept on dating for some time, but broke up on April 22, 1997 after an argument about howDean kept on trying to help his girlfriend to get into the portrait hole (HBP22).
Dean is even more upset when Katie came back from St. Mungo's Hospital for Magical Maladies and Injuries and went back to the Quidditch team, but as Harry got himself into a detention for using Sectumsempra against Draco Malfoy, he was able to play the last game of the season as a chaser, Ginny as a seeker.
When Harry and Ginny kissed in the feast to celebrate Gryffindor's championship, Dean got pretty upset, held a shattered glass in his hand (HBP24).
