Dark Lord
From UnknowableWiki
Dark Lord is a title used to refer to Lord Voldemort, usually by Death Eaters, who seldom call Voldemort any other title (for instance, GF30, OP35, HBP2, DH28) and tend to be particularly angered to hear someone saying the name 'Voldemort' (OP24, OP35). Harry Potter angrily points this out to Severus Snape, who often uses the term, during an Occlumency lesson; Snape is irritated, but screams in the Entrance Hall prevent him from replying (OP26).
The following Death Eaters and Death Eater collaborators have been known to use the term 'Dark Lord': Amycus Carrow (HBP27, DH30); Vincent Crabbe (DH31); Barty Crouch, Jr. (GF35); Fenrir Greyback (DH23); Bellatrix Lestrange (GF30, OP35, HBP2, DH23); Igor Karkaroff (GF30); Lucius (CS4, OP35, DH23), Narcissa (HBP2, DH23) and Draco Malfoy (GF37, HBP7, HBP27, DH31); Peter Pettigrew (PA19); Scabior (DH23); and Severus Snape (GF36, OP24, OP26, HBP2, HBP9, HBP28, DH33).
Albus Dumbledore uses the term when in conversation with Severus Snape (DH33).
Hermione Granger refers to Voldemort as 'the Dark Lord' while Polyjuiced as Bellatrix Lestrange (DH26).
Tom Marvolo Riddle—the teenage Voldemort that emerged from the Diary Horcrux—uses the term to refer to his older self (CS17).
Both Trelawney's first (OP34, OP37) and second prophecies (PA16) refer to Voldemort as 'Dark Lord.'
Harry Potter only uses the term to refer to Trelawney's second prophecy (PA16, GF10) and to question Snape's usage of this title (OP26).
In addition to the witches and wizards mentioned above, the following have also referred to Lord Voldemort as 'Dark Lord:' Phineas Nigellus Black (OP23); Barty Crouch, Sr. (GF28); Dobby (CS2, CS10, CS18); Griphook (DH24); Kreacher (OP6, DH10, DH36); Ernie Macmillan (CS11); Minerva McGonagall (DH30); Ollivander (DH24); and Ginny Weasley, in her Valentine's Day poem to Harry Potter (CS13).
