Daniel Radcliffe
From UnknowableWiki
Daniel Radcliffe is the actor who plays Harry Potter in the Harry Potter movies.
In 1999, Radcliffe debuted as an actor in BBC's David Copperfield (co-starring Maggie Smith, who would later play Professor McGonagall). One year afterwards (2000), he played a small role in The Tailor of Panama.
In an interview with Wow! magazine, Daniel described receiving the news that he had been picked among thousands of other boys to play the part of Harry Potter, "I was in the bath when the phone rang, and my dad came in and told me I’d gotten the part of Harry Potter. I cried, I was so happy. I woke up in the middle of the night, around half two, and I woke up my dad too, just to check with him that it wasn’t all a dream. That I really was going to be Harry Potter." [1]
J.K. Rowling was also extremely glad with the casting, affirming that "Having seen Dan Radcliffe's screen test, I don't think Chris Columbus could have found a better Harry." [2] After watching the Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, the author added "I think Dan nailed it, and I am really pleased." [3]
In 2007, Daniel Radcliffe starred as Alan Strang in the revival production of Peter Shaffer's play, Equus (along with Richard Griffiths, who plays Vernon Dursley in the Harry Potter movies). The news that it contained scenes of nudity, along photos that were released online, stirred the Harry Potter fandom, and generated several arguments on the matter.
In late March of the same year, Daniel was officially signed to work on all seven films of the Harry Potter series. Regarding this matter, he stated that, "Playing the role of Harry Potter has been an immense privilege, and I look forward to completing the series. I feel a huge sense of loyalty to the character of Harry and the fans who have supported these films over the years." [4]
