The Crumple-Horned Snorkack is a supposed magical creature that does not exist (BLC). The creature's existence is propagated (and probably even invented) by Xenophilius Lovegood in his magazine The Quibbler (OP26).
According to Xenophilius and his daughter Luna, who remains a staunch believer in her father's theory for a long time, the Crumple-Horned Snorkack is a shy and highly magical creature from Sweden (OP38, DH20). Its spiral grey horn looks just like that of an Erumpent. It is several feet long, with a sharp tip and grooved markings around the base (DH20, FBAZ). The horn can re-build itself if it is damaged even when detached from the Snorkack. The tiny ears are purple and hairy, shaped similar to a hippo's. Crumple-Horned Snorkacks can be called by humming a slow tune, preferably a waltz (DH25). They cannot fly (OP33).
Luna first mentions the Crumple-Horned Snorkack to Harry Potter on September 3, 1995. Harry has received detention from Dolores Umbridge the day before for announcing the return of Lord Voldemort. Luna publicly declares that she believes Harry, justifying her declaration with the statement that "people used to believe there were no such things as the Blibbering Humdinger or the Crumple‐Horned Snorkack!", to which Hermione Granger impatiently replies that neither do exist (OP13).
When Rita Skeeter interviews Harry for The Qibbler, Luna tells him that she does not know whether his story will be published in the next edition, as her father is expecting a long article about recent Snorkack sightings. Harry is worried that people will doubt his sanity if his interview is published alongside an essay about Snorkacks. Both Luna and her father are amazed that people seem more interested in the interview than Crumple-Horned Snorkacks (OP26).
Ron Weasley impatiently asks Luna whether they should ride on the back of the "Kacky Snorgle" when she suggests to fly to the Ministry of Magic to rescue Sirius Black in June 1996. Luna serenely replies that the Crumple-Horned Snorkack cannot fly and points out the Thestrals that have approached them (OP33).
After the Ministry acknowledges Voldemort's return, Xenophilius is able to sell Harry's interview to the Daily Prophet. He uses the money for a summer holiday to Sweden with his daughter in the hope of catching a Snorkack (OP38).
At Bill and Fleur's wedding on August 1, 1997, Viktor Krum is enraged to see Xenophilius wearing the Deathly Hallows symbol, which he associates with Grindelwald. Harry tries to calm him, saying that Xenophilius probably thinks it is the cross section of the head of a Crumple-Horned Snorkack (DH8).
Xenophilius buys an Erumpent horn as a Christmas present for Luna from a young man that same year, believing it to be that of a Crumple-Horned Snorkack. Hermione immediately recognises the dangerous horn when the Trio visits Xeno. She warns him, but he will not be convinced (DH20). The horn accidentally explodes when Xenophilius' Stunning Spell misses the Trio and hits it, causing the house to collapse. Two Death Eaters Xeno has summoned, Travers and Selwyn, arrive in the middle of the wreckage. Xeno tries to convince them that Harry Potter is upstairs, but Selwyn first dismisses this as one of his mad stories, like the one two weeks ago, when Xeno tried to swap Luna for proof that there are "Crumple-Headed Snorkacks" (DH21).
Aftr their escape from Malfoy Manor, Luna tells Dean Thomas about Crumple-Horned Snorkacks. Dean looks distinctly uncomfortable and shrugs at Harry. Despite Hermione's protests, Luna is confident that her father's Snorkack horn is genuine and will rebuild itself (DH25).
