Cross-Species Switches are a type of Transfiguration. After ordering her fourth-year class to Transfigure guineafowl into guinea pigs, Minerva McGonagall assigns the following question as homework: "Describe, with examples, the ways in which Transforming Spells must be adapted when performing Cross-Species Switches" (GF22).
