A cow is a domesticated farm animal whose primary use by humans is for milk and beef. It is a herbivorous mammal (WP).
Rubeus Hagrid brings half a dead cow to the fifth-years' Care of Magical Creatures lesson about Thestrals in 1995. He places it on the ground in the Forbidden Forest and call the Thestrals, who are attracted by the smell of the cow's blood and come quickly to devour it (OP21).
