Confronting the Faceless

Confronting the Faceless is a textbook that Snape uses in his Defense Against the Dark Arts class for sixth-years to prepare for the NEWTs. In his first class, Snape does not use the books (HBP9). Later that year, he orders all students to read the first two paragraphs of page 213, which are about the Cruciatus Curse (HBP21).

Confronting the Faceless is one of the schoolbooks that Harry takes to Snape after attacking Draco with Sectumsempra in a bathroom. Snape examines each book until he gets to Advanced Potion-Making; Harry has replaced his copy with Ron's before showing it to the teacher. Snape does not believe that that is Harry's book, and gives him weekly detentions (HBP24).
