Common rooms are large chambers accessible only (at least in theory) to the students of the house it belongs to. Each common room is vaguely associated with the element connected to each house: the Hufflepuff common room (earth) is in the cellar, near the kitchens (BLC); the Slytherin common room (water) is under the Great Lake (DH23); the Gryffindor common room (fire) is at the top of a Tower, and decorated in the house colours, red and gold (PS7); the Ravenclaw common room (air) is also located at the top of a tower—it is airier thn most others, has a domed ceiling painted with stars, and a good view of the mountains outside (DH29).
