Committee on Experimental Charms

The Committee on Experimental Charms is a Ministry division established by Balfour Blane (FW). Its office is located in the Ministry of Magic building, and its employees sometimes have problems with overactive experiments (e.g. a poisonous duck), which may escape to other parts of the Ministry and cause minor havoc (DH13).

Gilbert Wimple is a member of the Committee on Experimental Charms; for a while, he had horns (GF7).

Arthur Weasley, on one of his raids, encounters a wizard named Mortlake who had been bewitching ferrets; much to his relief, however, the matter falls under the jurisdiction of the Committee on Experimental Charms, and he does not have to deal with it (CS3).

When Harry Potter uses a Decoy Detonator to create a diversion on Level One so he can enter Dolores Umbridge's office undetected, the Ministry employees working outside the office believe the item was another of the Committee's rogue experiments (DH13).
