Violet is the Fat Lady's best friend. She lives in a portrait in the antechamber of the Great Hall.

Violet watched with interest as the Triwizard Champions received their instructions, and ran up to tell the Fat Lady before Harry Potter arrived at the entrance of the Gryffindor common room (GF17).

The two friends have a habit of getting drunk at Christmas (GF23 and HBP17).
