Madam Rosmerta is the rather attractive barmaid of The Three Broomsticks; she is presumably in her forties. Ron seems to be fond of her, and she remembers James Potter and Sirius Black with affection (PA10).
She was put under the Imperius Curse by Draco Malfoy in order to send Slughorn poisoned mead (HBP27) and also to curse an opal necklace. Both of these curses were attempts on Albus Dumbledore's life and both backfired: the mead poisoned Ron Weasley (HBP18) and the necklace cursed Katie Bell (HBP12).
Rosmerta was also used by Draco to send Dumbledore to the Astronomy Tower so that he could be cornered by Death Eaters. There the headmaster realised Malfoy's plan; the boy admitted that he used a Galleon enchanted with the Protean Charm to pass orders to her—a method of communication first devised by Hermione Granger to use with the DA (HBP27).
