Character:Reginald Cattermole
From UnknowableWiki
Reginald Cattermole, most often referred to as Reg, is a Ministry of Magic employee who works in Magical Maintenance. He is married to Muggle-born witch Mary and has three children: Maisie, Ellie and Alfred.
After the Fall of the Ministry, Runcorn investigated Mary's ancestry, and submitted her name for questioning to the Muggle-born Registration Commission. This greatly disturbed Reg, who promised to go with her to the courtroom on the appointed date. The Head of the Commission, Dolores Umbridge, was shocked to discover that a Ministry employee was married to a Mudblood (DH13).
On the day of the Commission interview, September 2, 1997, Reg was extremely distressed. He came to the Ministry wearing regular robes, instead of his usual navy-blue uniform. Before he could access the entrance, however, he ran into Mafalda Hopkirk (who was in fact a Polyjuiced Hermione Granger); she aggressively offered him sweets, and he took one. Hermione gave him a Puking Pastille, which caused Reg to start vomiting violently. Regardless of this, he still wished to enter the Ministry. With some difficulty, Hermione persuaded him otherwise; he went home, and she obtained some of his hairs so that Ron Weasley could impersonate him (DH12).
Mary lamented the absence of her husband during the trial. Unbeknownst to her, however, both Harry Potter—Polyjuiced as Runcorn—and Hermione were watching her interrogaation. After Stunning Umbridge and Yaxley, Harry led Mary and the other Muggle-borns waiting to be questioned up to the Atrium, where they met both Ron and the real Reg who, though very pale, had managed to stop hurling.
Reginald's appearance allowed Yaxley to conclude, some moments later, that someone was impersonating Ministry employees. He attempted to prevent the Muggle-borns' escape, with little success. The Trio Disapparated out; Harry recommended that Mary do the same and leave the country with her children (DH13). Hermione and Ron later voiced their hope that Reg would be quick-witted enough to Side-Along-Apparate with his wife as children. Ron doubted it, for other people treated Reg as though he were not all that smart (DH14).
