Oliver Wood is the captain of the Gryffindor Quidditch Team for three years until his departure from Hogwarts in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix when Angelina Johnson replaced him after he left school. Described as "burly", Wood is an accomplished Quidditch Player, considered one of the best Gryffindor Keepers in Hogwarts history.
Wood is known to be a rabid fan of Quidditch, known to quote Quidditch through the Ages from memory. A natural leader, his dedication to the sport prohibits him from even cancelling a practice.
His greatest desire is to win the Quidditch Cup - an accomplishment that he finally achieves in his final year. The road was littered with intensive training, team injuries, and, of course, drama, but it was clear that victory belonged to the most persevering as Wood led the Gryffindor team to victory.
After Wood left Hogwarts, he signed for Puddlemere United Reserve Team. He reappeared momentarily at the Quidditch World Cup (GF8).
Although he hasn't physically reappeared in subsequent books to date, his "tall, good-looking" persona still lingers on in conversation well throughout the 5th and 6th books.

Wood returned to Hogwarts along with some of his former Gryffindor team mates via the Hog's Head passageway to the Room of Requirement (DH29). He carried the body of Colin Creevey to the Great Hall during the one-hour cease-fire established by Voldemort (DH34).
Trivia
- In Harry's first year, when Minerva McGonagall asks Professor Flitwick to borrow Wood for a little while, Harry assumes Wood is a cane she is going to use to beat him.
- Oliver Woood has once borrowed Quidditch through the Ages from the Hogwarts library, and was due to return the book on April 9 (QAb).
