Character:Mrs. Cole

Mrs. Cole was the Muggle in charge of the orphanage in which Tom Marvolo Riddle grew up. Merope Gaunt showed up on the night before New Year's Eve and had her baby there, dying from childbirth soon afterwards; young Riddle was left in the care of alcohol-friendly Mrs. Cole, whom Albus Dumbledore visited eleven years later to take the boy to Hogwarts.

After making sure that nothing she said would prevent Albus from taking Riddle away, she confided in him that other children were scared of Tom (HBP13).
