Mr. Granger is the husband of Mrs. Granger and the father of Hermione. He is a dentist, like his wife (PS12).

The couple took Hermione to Diagon Alley in the summer before her second year (CS4); there they meet Arthur and Molly Weasley. Arthur seemed to find them fascinating.

In the following year, they dropped Hermione off at The Leaky Cauldron one day before the school term started, and gave her extra money to buy herself a birthday present (PA4). Hermione ended up buying a half-Kneazle named Crookshanks. On the Trio's trip to Hogsmeade, she bought her parents Toothflossing Stringmints for Christmas (PA10).

Neither of Hermione's parents believe that magic and teeth mix well. For this reason, Hermione, who was bucktoothed, could only use magic to reduce the size of her front teeth by allowing Madam Pomfrey to reduce them a bit more than their regular size when the girl was hexed before a Potions class in her fourth year (GF18).

Although Mr. Granger and his wife pick Hermione up every year at King's Cross station, she doesn't seem to spend much time at home. She spent half of her Christmases at Hogwarts (CS12, PA11), and cancelled a skiing trip to meet Harry Potter and Ron Weasley at number twelve, Grimmauld Place (OP23). When Hermione was chosen as Prefect, she sent Hedwig to her parents, excitedly explaining that that title was something that they could understand, thus implying that they cannot relate well to their daughter (OP6). Hermione doesn't spend a lot of time with her parents during the summer, either; since her first visit to The Burrow (GF5), she has been staying with the Weasleys' for most of her vacations.

J. K. Rowling originally intended for the Grangers to have another daughter, but the idea was eventually abandoned [1].
