The Quidditch final

Montague played in the final match of the 1993/1994 Hogwarts Quidditch Cup against Gryffindor. Angelina Johnson ducked him before scoring the first goal of the game.

Later, when Katie Bell was on her way to the Slytherin goal, Montague flew towards her and grabbed her head instead of the Quaffle; Katie almost fell off her broomstick, and had to let go of the ball. According to the commentator, Lee Jordan, Montague's actions were deliberate. Hooch flew to Montague, told him off for it and awarded Gryffindor a penalty. Katie scored.

After a while, Montague scored, capitalising on the Gryffindor team's loss of concentration and anger at the brutality of Slytherin players. Gryffindor ends up winning the game, and the Cup (PA15).

Weasley Is Our King

In Harry Potter's fifth year, Montague was made Captain of the Slytherin team. He selected Crabbe and Goyle to be Beaters in the team.

When the match against Gryffindor started, Hooch ordered the two Captains to shake hands. Montague tried to crush Angelina's fingers, but she did not flinch.

As the game went on, Angelina ducks Warrington and Montague before a Bludger of Crabbe's hits her on the back; Montague gets the Quaffle, but is hit on the head by a Bludger of George's. He drops the ball, and Katie catches it.

Meanwhile, the Slytherins watching the match started singing Weasley Is Our King. Montague caught the Quaffle after Katie dropped, and Slytherin had soon scored four times. Gryffindor's first goal came after Katie dodged Pucey and Montague and tossed the Quaffle to Johnson, who ducked Warrington and scored.

After Harry caught the Snitch and ended the match, Crabbe beat a Bludger in his direction out of anger. Harry and George got into a fight with Draco Malfoy when Malfoy insulted the Weasleys, earning themselves a lifelong Quidditch ban. At dinner, Ginny heard Montague gloating that Crabbe's only punishment had been lines (OP19).

Vanishing Cabinet

Montague was part of the Inquisitorial Squad that Dolores Umbridge formed as part of her regime at Hogwarts. In his first day as such, he attempted to dock points from Fred and George Weasley. The twins did not let him finish saying a sentence—they shoved him headfirst in a Vanishing Cabinet on the first floor of the Hogwarts castle. They expected him to take weeks to reappear (OP28).

Some time later, Harry and Snape were about to start an Occlumency lesson when Draco, on Umbridge's orders came to Snape's office to say that Montague had been found inside a toilet on the fourth floor. Snape left Harry at once.

Knowing that the professor, as Head of Slytherin, would probably accompany Montague to the hospital wing, Harry took advantage of this to take a look at the contents of a memory Snape had just deposited in Dumbledore's Pensieve. Severus caught him at it later and was furious (OP28).

While stuck in the Cabinet, Montague felt trapped; sometimes he heard what was going on at Hogwarts, and others, at Borgin and Burkes; however, because the Cabinet was beokrn, he could not finish passing to either end. He eventually managed to Apparate out of the Cabinets, even though he did not have a license to do so. This Apparition nearly killed Montague.

It took him a while to recover; he was disoriented and did not recall what had occurred. His parents visited the school, and were extremely angry to see the state of their son. Harry, Ron and Hermione saw them arrive, and Hermione worriedly suggested that they should tell Madam Pomfrey what had injured Montague; Ron dismissed the idea, confident that the boy would recover regardless of this information (OP30).

When Harry fainted during his History of Magic OWLs, he went to the hospital wing and saw Montague been spoonfed a bright blue potion by Madam Pomfrey (OP32).

After recovering, Montague told Draco Malfoy about his experience in the Cabinet, which gave Draco the idea to use the Cabinets as a means to allow Death Eaters to enter the school—an expedient that resulted in the Battle of the Astronomy Tower (HBP27).
