Michael Corner is a dark-haired Ravenclaw in the same year as the Trio (HBP9). He is a member of Dumbledore's Army and fought in the Battle of Hogwarts (OP18, DH29). He is good friends with his house mates Terry Boot and Anthony Goldstein (OP16). He dated Ginny Weasley and later Cho Chang (OP38).
Fourth and fifth year at Hogwarts
Michael met Ginny Weasley at the Yule Ball on Christmas 1994 and they started dating at the end of the year. Ginny kept their affair secret from her family because she did not want to be teased by her brothers (OP16).
In 1995, Ginny was the one who told Michael that Harry Potter and his friends planned to found a secret Defence Against the Dark Arts study group. She persuaded him and his friends Terry and Anthony to attend the meeting in the Hog's Head on October 5. When Hermione Granger opened the meeting and explained that the aim of the group was to learn how to defend oneself properly, Michael interrupted her and implied that he thought she simply wanted to pass her OWL. Hermione agreed, but added that knowing how to fight was more important because of Voldemort's return. Later, when Harry explained that he had had a lot of help in his adventures, Michael spoke up again to say that he had faced the Hungarian Horntail in the first task of the Triwizard Tournament alone and done a "seriously cool bit of flying". At the end of the meeting, Michael and his friends signed Hermione's parchment, thereby agreeing not to tell anybody about the group.
After the meeting, Hermione mentioned to Ron Weasley that Michael and his friends would not have come if he had not been going out with Ginny. Just like Ginny had expected, Ron was furious and stated that he did not like Michael (whom he had not known before the meeting) (OP16).
On Monday morning two days later, Educational Decree Number Twenty-four, which banned student groups not approved by Dolores Umbridge, appeared and led Ron and Harry to believe that somebody must have told her about the meeting. Ron suspected Michael, saying that he thought he had "a really shifty look [...]." At breakfast, Michael and his friends tried to come over to the Gryffindor table to talk to the Trio about the new decree. Ginny quickly went over to them to stop them from attracting attention. Before she left, she called Michael a fool (OP17).
At the first DA meeting in the Room of Requirement, Michael was paired with Ginny to practice Expelliarmus. While Ginny was doing well, he performed badly; probably because he was reluctant to jinx his girlfriend (OP18).
After the Gryffindor Quidditch team defeated the Ravenclaw one at the end of May 1996, Michael proved to be such a bad loser that Ginny broke up with him and he started going out with Cho Chang (OP38, HBP6). When Ginny told this to Ron on the Hogwarts Express back to London, he commented that he had always thought that Michael was an idiot and advised her to make a better choice next time. Ginny informed him that she was now dating Dean Thomas, which sent Ron into a new fit of rage (OP38).
Sixth and seventh year at Hogwarts
Michael got at least an E in his Potions OWL and proceeded to take NEWT level Potions; during the first lesson he asked Slughorn whether the latter had ever taken Felix Felicis. The teacher answered that he had done so twice (HBP9).
Michael returned to Hogwarts in September 1997 after the school had fallen under Death Eater command. This indicates that he must be a half-blood or a pure-blood; Muggle-borns were not allowed to attend (DH11). As a member of Dumbledore's Army, he participated in activities that undermined the authority of the new regime. After Easter, he was caught releasing a chained up first-year and badly tortured by the Carrows. The DA no longer engaged in such dangerous missions after that. When persecution became more brutal, Michael and most of the DA went into hiding in the Room of Requirement. He was there when Neville Longbottom brought the Trio in. When Harry told them that they had not come back for good to liberate the school, Michael demanded if they were "going to leave us in this mess?" Ron insisted that they were on an important mission that would benefit everybody eventually. Harry asked the Ravenclaws if they knew of any item that might have belonged to Rowena Ravenclaw. Luna Lovegood mentioned her lost diadem; rolling his eyes, Michael replied that "the lost diadem is lost, Luna. That's sort of the point" (DH29).
Presumably, Michael fought with the rest of the DA when the battle broke out. Nothing is known of his fate.
