Character:Marcus Belby

Marcus Belby is a "thin and nervous-looking" Ravenclaw. He was first considered by Horace Slughorn to join the Slug Club on account of his famous uncle Damocles, who invented the Wolfsbane Potion, but he did not become a member.

When Slughorn invited Belby to join a meeting of promising students on the Hogwarts Express on September 1, 1996, Belby obviously suffered from nerves. He started when Slughorn offered him cold pheasant and choked on his food in his haste to answer the teacher's next question. After he admitted that he did not know his uncle very well because his father did not get along with him, Slughorn cut him off and ignored him for the rest of the meeting. When Blaise Zabini later told his fellow Slytherin students that Slughorn had invited Belby, Pansy Parkinson dismissed the Ravenclaw as a prat (HBP7).

It is possible that Markus Belby is a descendant of Flavius Belby, an 18th century wizard who is famous for surviving a Lethifold attack by using the Patronus Charm (FW, FBAZ).
